Artist statement:

“Focusing on the brutal nature of the life we humans have made for ourselves is something I live for as an artist. This piece in particular originally sprouted from an idea I had while studying the poem ‘Dulce et Decorum est’ by Wilfred Owen. I am using this piece as an anti-war statement, just as Owen did with his poem, using harsh depictions of mutilation caused by war and the overwhelming chance of death that soldiers constantly face on the battlefield. With smaller details keen eyes may catch I also delve into the loss of identity and opinion soldiers may face as they become pawns to the sick games played by rulers and leaders, who promise glory and honour. Quite depressingly, this ‘honour’ is only usually received with a Poppy, and immense grief. Referencing the poem, I also depicted how this lie is deeply rooted, dating back all the way to childhood, when children are blinded by the lie that it is sweet and right to die for your country; ‘The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori.’ – Wilfred Owen (1893 – 1918).”

Quality:

The print itself is thick and durable, printed on linen stock for a professional feel. It is the size of a typical A3 paper.
