What Is the Dr Sunshine Comfort Kit?
The Dr Sunshine Comfort Kit is a youth-led initiative that brings comfort, hope, and warmth to children in hospital. Each kit offers emotional support, distraction, and a sense of familiarity.
The kit includes a cosy fleece blanket, colouring books with pencils and pens, reading books in English and Maltese, and activity and puzzle books. These items help children relax, stay engaged, and feel less anxious. The kit turns a stressful hospital stay into a calmer, more positive experience.
How the Initiative Began
A personal hospital experience inspired the Sunshine Team. Yasmine, Managing Director of Dr Sunshine, saw how small gestures could change a child’s mood. That moment stayed with her.
She later created Dr Sunshine with students from St Aloysius College and Junior College. Together, they built a project focused on care, empathy, and creativity. The team designs every kit with purpose and attention to detail. They aim to make each child feel supported and valued.
Public Recognition
Dr Sunshine launched its Comfort Kits on World Children’s Day. The team later appeared on “Illum ma’ Steph” on TVMi. During the programme, they shared the story behind the kits and their real impact.
Local media also featured the initiative. Coverage appeared on Lovin Malta, Newsbook, and Malta Daily. These articles highlight how the kits improve children’s hospital experiences.
